Tribeca 2024 “Casa Bonita Mi Amor!” (Seth Shire)

CASA BONITA

June 8, 2024.  Childhood memories of a favorite restaurant/massive indoor amusement area, epic renovations with astronomically spiraling costs, expectations of a community, improving menu selections and food quality, “South Park,” indoor cliff divers, an indoor pool that leaks 5,000 gallons of water a day, media pressures, puppet shows, animatronics, actors and a whole host of problems come together in the exciting, hilarious, touching and nail biting documentary, “¡Casa Bonita Mi Amor!”

Trey Parker and Matt Stone, creators of the TV show “South Park” and the long running Broadway musical “The Book of Mormon,” may have just hit pay dirt again, perhaps unintentionally, with this documentary about their purchase of, and attempt to revitalize, “Casa Bonita,” the titular abandoned and crumbling, but beloved restaurant/mammoth theme park from their Colorado childhoods. This is a story about a monumental effort that really captured my imagination.
